nameless.
nameless. is an anarchic hacker collective with no true leadership structure. They dwell in the darkest depths of the Cortex, where only the most savvy of console cowboys can find them. No member of nameless. ever shares their real name or picture -- 'meatspace' details are verboten. Instead, everyone is known solely by their handle.
Because of its lack of structure, nameless. is many things depending on which subgroup of its members is conducting an operation. Sometimes, they are noble activists using their knowledge to expose political and corporate corruption. Other times, they are vigilantes, tracking down criminals where the police fail and exposing them to the world and whatever mob justice awaits them. Other times, they are juvenile -- even cruel -- pranksters, engaging in digital harassment against people they've never met.
nameless. gained global infamy for its Cortex attacks in 2376 and 2377. Graduating from earlier protests and pranks, these attacks caused severe economic repercussions and even the deaths of several mining operators on Luna base. Due to this escalation, a digital manhunt ensued that led to the arrest and prosecution of dozens of notable nameless. figureheads.
Following this crackdown, nameless. operations became more discreet and low key, though some subgroups within the collective still proudly claim responsibility for various Cortex attacks, and the group's distributed and informal nature makes it difficult to suppress.
NOTABLE MEMBERS
Several notorious hackers have counted themselves as members of nameless. and have led many highly publicized and in some cases destructive online operations.
n0mak - Orchestrated the 2376 Cyberwar that shut down the Cortex for 3 weeks. Arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
cowknight - Stole blueprints for a next-gen VTOL APC from Vulcan Armory servers
brownieByte - Posted fabricated APBs for several online rivals to various law enforcement servers, leading to multiple arrests.
JOINING NAMELESS.
Any hacker savvy enough to track down the group's virtual hangouts is savvy enough to join them. While anyone can claim membership, more or less, those who hang around the nameless. chatspaces will be challenged by veteran members to prove themselves. These tests come in many forms -- from hacking challenges, to fending off digital attacks from other nameless. members.
