Giants
As legend has it, Giants were created during the Titan Era. The Titanslayers were infused with Nexus energies upon slaying a Titan, and these energies were passed down through the Titanslayers’ descendants who became the Giants. Though relatively rare, they are nevertheless proportionally overrepresented in the militaries and mercenary squads of the world.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Giants are a deviation from humans and look human aside from their immense size. They range in height from 7 1/2 feet at the short end to 10 feet, with most giants comfortably falling into the 8 or 9 foot range. They weigh between 400 and 800 lbs. Giants are of average size at birth, but grow quickly, with most reaching 4 feet tall by age 1. There is no gender disparity in the giants' physical attributes.
Giants are able to put on muscle mass and maintain it with ease. They are purely built for strength, so their reflexes and cardio suffer. They are known to have a high pain tolerance and extremely dense bones resistant to breaking.
The strain that their immense size puts on their organs means that most giants do not naturally live beyond age 60. However, with medical intervention and cybernetic or biotechnological enhancements they can achieve a normal human lifespan.
CULTURE
Giants face enormous pressures and expectations. As descendants of the Titanslayers, Giants are expected by many to do great things and become great people, but this pressure can be an enormous burden for those Giants who don’t want to live the life of a warrior or a globe-trotting adventurer. Depending on the Giant’s birthplace, they may face different challenges and opportunities; in militaristic nations like the Aurelian Empire or the Kingdom of Durendal, they may be conscripted into elite guard units. In other places they may be entered into isolated warrior-priesthoods or pushed into combat sports. The commonality is that Giants are often looked at as being apart from ‘normal’ society in some way, and whether it has a positive connotation (being elite) or a negative one (being a freak) depends on the individual and their culture.
Giants have served in the armies of nearly every nation and every mercenary group across the globe. Broken down by species, giants are some of the most decorated soldiers in the world. Though Giants don’t have a particular nation to call their own, the country of Nuevo Caral in South America is home to one of the highest percentages of native-born Giants in the world. There, they are referred to in the Caralian dialect as “Children of the Stone” and take on the roles of soldiers, bodyguards, and guardians of the country’s famed floating mountains.
