Humans are the original denizens of this world. With the advent of magic and the influx of new races upsetting the former balance, humans have had to quickly adapt to ensure their survival. Known for being versatile, persistent, and clever, humans have been at the forefront of most scientific advances from cybernetics to gene therapy. They account for roughly 70% of the world population.
Humans usually stand between 5 to 6 feet tall and weigh on average 130 to 180 lbs. However, the availability of genetic modification and other medical procedures - not to mention differences in lifestyles and social class - means there is a great amount of variance in human characteristics, from height to weight to bone structure to eye and hair colour.
The average lifespan for a human is around eighty years but varies based on social class. Many of the poorest humans are lucky to live to sixty, while the wealthy who have access to medical technology and chem-free food can live over a hundred and thirty years.
The appearance of other races in the world caused much of humankind to band together in defense of themselves. Old racial lines were forgotten over time, until humanity - in Midnight City, at least - began to see itself simply as one race. In general, humans are very defensive of their position in the world. Though they are still dominant in terms of sheer numbers, as well as political and social power, there is a feeling that their grasp on this power is tenuous and can be usurped at any time. This fosters a sense of hostility between them and many of the other races, chiefly Vampires, Werewolves, and certain factions of Dragons.
While many of the most powerful CEOs, politicians, and celebrities are humans, things are not so rosy for the average human citizen. Many struggle to find work as robots and magic have enabled companies to produce far more with fewer employees. Large numbers of humans have turned to crime to survive, and in the lawless outlying settlements away from central metropolitan areas there are frequent clashes for resources.
