Fae are a mystical race that entered this world through the nexus point at Stonehenge, bringing with them the language, customs, traditions, and magical power of their home dimension. They are known around the world for their innate skill with magic. As a result of this skill, their persuasiveness, and their ability to quickly organize, fae rose to many positions of power during the rebuilding efforts after the apocalypse.
There are many different ethnic groups within the fae race, including but not limited to the brùnaidh, selkie, ban síde, and aos sí. Each group possesses subtle differences in skin tone, facial features, hair, and so forth, but all share a few common traits:
- Ageless appearance
- Extremely long lifespan, up to 500 years
- Slightly pointed ears
- Blue, green, or violet eyes
- Tall and slender build
Fae are generally not known for being physically powerful, however, their magical power is unmatched. Fae possess an innate resistance to the mutagenic qualities of concentrated liquid blue and are able to channel powerful magic for longer periods of time than other races before suffering any ill effects. They are not, however, able to handle hard liquor very well.
There are two distinct political and cultural groups of fae, the Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court. The vast majority of fae fall under the authority of one or the other; those that don’t are considered outcasts.
The Seelie Court rules New Tairngire, the lands that were formerly known as the United Kingdom and Ireland. They assisted in rebuilding much of western Europe and as a result are the strongest and most influential political force in the region. They work cooperatively with many other races, though they are sticklers for protocol and being shown proper respect. They tend to have something of a trickster sense of humour.
The Unseelie Court were ousted from New Tairngire shortly after the apocalypse, and moved across the Atlantic to find their fortunes in North America. Members of the Court went on to found Gordian-Allod International and play an integral role in the rebuilding and rise of Mag Duinn, Midnight City. Fae of the Unseelie Court are usually characterized as cold, self-interested, and cunning. There is no such thing as ‘the goodness of their heart’ - it’s all about what’s in it for them.
Fae are generally viewed as respectable, if not particularly trustworthy. They speak a language known to others as Faetongue that bears many similarities to Old Irish.
